This week has been one of explaining how I plan to live 2013–a year of control. Yesterday I talked about how I will regain control of my faith and spirituality. Today I’ll be talking about how I will take control over my health.
I know, this is starting to sounds like the more typical “New Year’s Resolution”, but really it is about control. I absolutely need to get in control of my health in all aspects — my weight, my diet, my exercise, my allergies, and my anxiety. And when I write it out that way, it seems absolutely terrifying — that is a lot that I need to get under control.
My weight is going to be under control through both diet and exercise.
- As far as diet goes, I am starting the 90 Day Visalus Challenge on Monday. I have seen some amazing women transform on this, and have decided that it will at least kick-start my weight loss goals. I’ll have two shakes per day, which really is perfect for my busy lifestyle. Add in two snacks and a healthy dinner, and I really am hoping that I will be able to take control of my weight.
- I’m also planning on cooking more. I would like to make dinner six nights per week and avoid eating out (or eating junk). I’m planning on talking to Mr. Mississippi to see if we can meal plan together and buy dinner groceries together, because it is a good time for us to get together. Our dinners are usually late (due to my night classes and his working) but if we can make a dinner together (or one cooking for the other) it will be healthier and we will spend more time together.
- When I’m looking at exercise, I am planning on taking advantage of the school’s gym four times per week. Mr. Mississippi has to go at least three times to help control his migraines, and is scheduling those times when I can go as well. Additionally, I am planning on going to a yoga class at least once or twice per week (as long as the classes are offered around my schedule).
Allergies and Anxiety–this is going to sounds stupid to ya’ll but sometimes it’s just the little things I need to control. Like remembering to take my anxiety medicine every day (duh!) and scheduling and going to my allergy shots. I was doing really well with the allergy shots, and I can absolutely feel a difference. But then I got sick, and wasn’t able to get them when I was sick. So when I get back to school next week, I am scheduling my appointments a month in advance and putting them in my calendar, no excuses.

I tried Visalus but didn’t like only having two shakes instead of a healthy meal for breakfast and lunch. I felt like I was starving all of the time. The shakes are tasty, and my friend lost weight on it. However, my trainer (who was a former pro-boxer and owns the gym I go to) and his wife (a nutritionist) are skeptical. They think it’s starvation and that people will gain the weight back when they come off the diet. I hope it works for you though
you seem to have done great with exercise so far!
Good luck with the Visalus way of food, and hope you get control of everything on your last, hopefully once one or two of them happen the others will fall into place as well
